New Study: Fluoride Can Damage the Brain – Avoid Use in Children

A breaking new study outright displays the unquestionable danger of fluoride use. Safety officials often dismissed fluoride concerns with the fact that water supplies contain on one part per million fluoride but the study published in Neurologia warned that this amount is dangerous.

Other severe cautions in the results include fluoride’s extreme toxicity and ability to cross the blood brain barrier, avoiding its use altogether especially for children, evidence that it can take 20 years for the toxic accumulation to manifest its effects and more. Fluoride effects biochemistry, neurological and mental development, destruction of teeth, and pregnancies. “Animal studies show fluoride’s toxic brain effects include classic brain abnormalities found in patients with Alzheimer’s disease.”

NEW YORK, June 21, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — “The prolonged ingestion of fluoride may cause significant damage to health and particularly to the nervous system,” concludes a review of studies by researchers Valdez-Jimenez, et al. published in Neurologia (June 2011), reports New York State Coalition Opposed to Fluoridation, Inc. (NYSCOF).

The research team reports, “It is important to be aware of this serious problem and avoid the use of toothpaste and items that contain fluoride, particularly in children as they are more susceptible to the toxic effects of fluoride.” (1)

“Fluoride can be toxic by ingesting one part per million (ppm), and the effects are not immediate, as they can take 20 years or more to become evident,” they write.

Most fluoridating U.S. public drinking water suppliers add fluoride chemicals to deliver 1 ppm fluoride (equal to about 1 milligram per quart) intending to benefit teeth and not to purify the water.

“Fluoridation clearly jeopardizes our children and must be stopped,” says attorney Paul Beeber, President, NYSCOF.  ”We can actually see how fluoride has damaged children’s teeth with dental fluorosis; but we can’t see the harm it’s doing to their brains and other organs. No U.S. researcher is even looking,” says Beeber.

Valdez-Jimenez, et al. describe studies that show fluoride induces changes in the brain’s physical structure and biochemistry which affects the neurological  and mental development of individuals including cognitive processes, such as learning and memory.

“Fluoride is capable of crossing the blood-brain barrier, which may cause biochemical and functional changes in the nervous system during pregnancy, since the fluoride accumulates in brain tissue before birth,” they write.*

Animal studies show fluoride’s toxic brain effects include classic brain abnormalities found in patients with Alzheimer’s disease, Valdez-Jimenez’s team reports.

A different research team (Tang et al.) reported in 2008 that “A qualitative review of the studies found a consistent and strong association between the exposure to fluoride and low IQ.” (Biological Trace Element Research)  (2)

In 2006, the U.S. National Research Council’s (NRC) expert fluoride panel reviewed fluoride toxicology and concluded, “It’s apparent that fluorides have the ability to interfere with the functions of the brain.” And, “Fluorides also increase the production of free radicals in the brain through several different biological pathways. These changes have a bearing on the possibility that fluorides act to increase the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease.” (3)

On April 12, 2010, Time magazine listed fluoride as one of the “Top Ten Common Household Toxins” and described fluoride as both “neurotoxic and potentially tumorigenic if swallowed.” (4)

Phyllis Mullenix, Ph.D., was the first U.S. scientist to find evidence that fluoride damages the brain. She published her animal study in a respected peer-reviewed scientific journal in 1995 (5) and then was fired for doing so.(6)

Vyvyan Howard, M.D., Ph.D., a prominent fetal toxicologist and past-President of the International Society of Doctors for the Environment, said that current brain/fluoride research convinces him that we should stop water fluoridation.

Many communities have stopped or rejected fluoridation in the past several years  – the most recent is Fairbanks, Alaska.  This year, seven New York City Council Members co-sponsored legislation to stop fluoridation in NYC.

Councilor Peter Vallone is introducing a bill to the New York City Council that would end fluoridation in NYC. We need help from all our New York City readers to support this effort to protect the safety of the NYC water supply and remove this toxic chemical from the tap water there.

Fluoride is a poison

As you may already know, the fluoride that’s dumped into the water supplies in cities like NYC is actually derived from the toxic byproducts of the phosphate mining industry. Twenty-four studies have now been publishing linking fluoride to low IQs in children, including a recent study that showed water fluoridation strongly correlated to a statistically significant reduction in children’s IQs.

Also, if fluoridated tap water is used to create infant formula, this can cause a toxic overdose of fluoride in infants, delivering up to 200 times the fluoride level of breast milk and causing fluoride poisoning. This can lead to cancer, tooth discoloration and neurological harm, among other side effects.

Study: fluoridated water causes brain damage in children

A new study pre-published in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives confirms that fluoridated water causes brain damage in children. The most recent among 23 others pertaining to fluoride and lowered IQ levels, the new study so strongly proves that fluoride is a dangerous, brain-destroying toxin that experts say it could be the one that finally ends water fluoridation.

This is the 24th study that has found this association,” explained Paul Connett, Ph.D., director of the Fluoride Action Network (FAN). “[B]ut this study is stronger than the rest because the authors have controlled for key confounding variables and in addition to correlating lowered IQ with levels of fluoride in the water, the authors found a correlation between lowered IQ and fluoride levels in children’s blood.”

For the study, researchers evaluated 512 children ages 8-13 in two Chinese villages, one village with higher than average fluoride levels and the other with lower than average fluoride levels. After accounting for external variables like lead exposure, iodine deficiency and other conditions that might affect brain health, the team still found that the number of higher intelligence children in the low fluoride community was 350 percent higher than the number in the high fluoride community.

In this study we found a significant dose-response relation between fluoride level in serum and children’s IQ,” wrote the study authors.

Though there have been numerous studies over the years the identify fluoride as a neurotoxin, most mainstream medical professionals in the U.S. have ignored them and continue to support water fluoridation. But the evidence continues to mount, and sooner or later the medical community will have to come to grips with the truth about fluoride.

This should be the study that finally ends water fluoridation,” explained Tara Blank, Ph.D., Science and Health Officer at FAN. “Millions of American children are being exposed unnecessarily to this neurotoxin on a daily basis. Who in their right minds would risk lowering their child’s intelligence in order to reduce a small amount of tooth decay, for which the evidence is very weak.”

The Big Secret Commercial Water Companies Hope You Never Discover

Bottled water has been falling out of public favor for years now, once people began to realize just how detrimental all those plastic bottles are to the environment – and what a rip-off bottled water often is in terms of price and purity.

Now, instead of toting a plastic bottle of water everywhere, the “in” thing is to carry a refillable bottle of filtered tap water — it’s better for you and the environment.

But the International Bottled Water Association was not going to let their once trendy beverage fall into the shadows without a fight. So, they created “Bottled Water Matters,” a Web site and YouTube channel that is cleverly disguised as a “cool” grassroots movement to bring bottled water back.

In reality, the videos and the Web site are nothing more than a front group for the bigwigs behind the bottled water industry – the bottlers, suppliers and distributors – all of whom are probably sweating bullets, worried that consumers might finally be catching on to the truth.

The Truth about Bottled Water

There are many problems with bottled water, but the most obvious is the fact that you’re paying a premium for something that is in many cases indistinguishable from regular tap water.

Bottled water typically costs more than $1.50 per bottle, which is 1,900 times the price of tap water. But, about 40 percent of bottled water IS regular tap water, which may or may not have received any additional treatment.

Most municipal tap water must actually adhere to stricter purity standards than the bottled water industry. The EPA requires large public water suppliers to test for contaminants as often as several times a day, but the FDA requires private bottlers to test for contaminants only once a week, once a year, or once every four years, depending on the contaminant.

So if you think water that comes in a bottle is automatically pure, think again.

An independent test performed by the Environmental Working Group revealed 38 low-level contaminants in bottled water, with each of the 10 tested brands containing an average of eight chemicals including disinfection byproducts (DBPs), caffeine, Tylenol, nitrate, industrial chemicals, arsenic, and bacteria.

Fluoride (a highly toxic bone poison that should be avoided at all costs) is usually present in both tap water and filtered bottled water. Many bottled waters actually make a point of adding fluoride back into the water, so if you are drinking bottled water please make sure yours is fluoride free. The toxic metal antimony (a silvery white metal of medium hardness) has also been found in many commercially bottled water brands.

When you drink bottled water, not only is the water itself potentially contaminated, but the bottle it comes in often poses serious problems of its own.

Drinking from Plastic Bottles is Not a Good Idea

Plastic often used to make water bottles contains chemicals like BPA and phthalates, which mimic hormones in your body — and which can leach from the bottle during normal consumption. If you leave your water bottle in a hot car or reuse it, your exposure is magnified because heat and stress increase the amount of chemicals that leach out of the plastic, into the water, and then into your body when you consume it.

This is concerning, as even tiny concentrations can cause problems such as:

  • Structural damage to your brain
  • Hyperactivity, increased aggressiveness, and impaired learning
  • Increased fat formation and risk of obesity
  • Altered immune function
  • Early puberty, stimulation of mammary gland development, disrupted reproductive cycles, and ovarian dysfunction
  • Changes in gender-specific behavior, and abnormal sexual behavior
  • Stimulation of prostate cancer cells
  • Increased prostate size, and decreased sperm production

So the container your water comes in should receive just as much attention as the water itself, and plastic is simply not a wise choice for a beverage holder from a health perspective … not to mention the extreme amounts of waste — 1,500 water bottles are thrown away every second!

National Geographic cited one statistic that the U.S. public goes through 50 billion water bottles every year … and most of those are never recycled! No wonder large portions of our oceans are essentially turning into plastic.

The manufacturing process of the bottles is also an environmental concern. About 1.5 million tons of plastic are used to manufacture water bottles each year around the world, and the processing itself releases toxic compounds like nickel, ethylbenzene, ethylene oxide and benzene.

Also extremely harmful to the environment is the way corporations are pumping water from underground aquifers. These natural springs serve as water sources for nearby streams, wells and farms, but the aggressive pumping can easily dry them out prematurely.

Do You Really Want to “Buy” Your Water?

In the United States and most other developed countries, we are fortunate enough to have access to water supplies for a very low cost … for now.

I suspect you’d agree that water is more a “right” than it is a commodity. And private corporations should have no more control over the selling of water than they do the selling of our air supplies. Well, this is already occurring to some extent as corporations make a profit selling water — which at times even makes water less available to the people living in the area.

Even public water supplies are being increasingly taken over by private corporations, and in some areas of the world are up for grabs by the highest bidder.

This has been publicized in countries such as Bolivia, where residents battled police and the military to protect their water rights from the US-based Bechtel Corporation, but you should know water privatization initiatives are being pushed all over the world … including in the United States.

One way you can take a stand against this issue is by refusing to support the bottled water industry in all its forms, and instead secure access to pure water for your family using your tap at home. I do highly recommend that you filter your tap water before drinking it, however.

Actually, an even better option than using your tap may be finding a gravity-fed raw spring in your area. This water is naturally filtered by the earth and it is not pasteurized or heated like nearly all commercial bottled waters.

You see there are living organisms in pure raw spring water like algae that are actually beneficial for you, but when you heat the water, just like pasteurizing milk, you damage it and miss out on these “living” benefits.

Now, before you dismiss this idea because you think there are no such springs in your neck of the woods, there is a Web site called FindaSpring.com that will help you find a spring in your area. Typically they are even monitored by the local municipalities for contaminants.

I strongly encourage you, your family and your friends to use this resource to secure FREE and pure water. You can easily store 10 five-gallon jugs (ideally look for glass varieties) in most cars and it is a wonderful opportunity for you to stock up on truly pure water.

This is one secret the International Bottled Water Association surely does not want you to know! There is likely a spring within one hour of your home where you can get pure water, for free, anytime you want … and I highly suggest you take advantage of it.

12 Medical Myths Even Most Doctors Believe…

There is no shortage of real health myths that can, and do, have a massive impact on tens of thousands if not millions of people. Here is my list of the top 12 health myths:

1: Cardio is One of the Best Types of Exercise

In recent years, researchers have begun to realize that conventional cardio, such as jogging, is not all it’s been cracked up to be, and that you can actually improve your health and increase fat burning by making slight modifications to your cardio routine.

The problem is that traditional cardio only works on the slow twitch muscle fibers in your red muscle, completely ignoring your white muscle super-fast twitch fibers.

Peak 8” refers to peak exercises done once or twice a week, in which you raise your heart rate up to your anaerobic threshold for 20 to 30 seconds, followed by a 90-second recovery period.

To perform these properly you will want to get very close to, if not exceed, your maximum heart rate by the last interval. Your maximum heart rate is calculated as 220 minus your age. You will need a heart rate monitor to measure this as it is nearly impossible to accurately measure your heart rate manually when it is above 150.

Researchers have found that interval cardio produces a unique metabolic response that is in large part responsible for its superior benefits. Intermittent sprinting produces high levels of chemical compounds called catecholamines, which allow more fat to be burned from under your skin and within your muscles. The resulting increase in fat oxidation is thought to drive the increased weight loss.

It is also the only type of exercise that will increase growth hormone levels. This becomes especially important after the age of 30, when growth hormones steadily decline. It is much safer and far less expensive to have your body make growth hormone naturally though Peak 8 type exercises than inject it like many athletes do to the tune of $1500 per month.

2: Vaccines are Safe and Effective and Prevent Disease

I completely understand that for many this issue is not debatable as they believe that vaccines are one of the greatest gifts to public health in the history of civilization.

If you believe that, then let me encourage you to open your mind and explore other views held by many well respected physicians, scientists, clinicians and pro-vaccine safety educators.

When it comes to vaccines, there are three primary questions that need to be considered.

1. First, is the vaccine in question safe?
2. Secondly, does it effectively prevent disease?
3. And third, which vaccines can safely and effectively be given together or in close succession?

Unfortunately, these issues have not been sufficiently studied for most vaccines, and those vaccines that have been studied frequently show that they are either unsafe or ineffective, or both!

Pro-vaccine-safety educators have long been saying that vaccines can over-stimulate your child’s immune system, sometimes causing the very disease it’s designed to protect against, or worse. And, when several vaccines are administered together, or in close succession, their interaction may completely overwhelm your child’s developing immune system.

This is one of the primary problems with vaccines in general – their detrimental impact on your body’s primary, natural defense against ALL disease.

Now consider that if your child is vaccinated according to the CDC’s recommended schedule, by the time your child starts kindergarten he or she will have received 48 doses of 14 vaccines. 3: Fluoride in Your Water Lowers Your Risk of Cavities

The theory behind the introduction of fluoride in your water supply initially seems beneficial – to reduce the incidence of dental caries in children. However, the health dangers of fluoride are so numerous; they far outweigh any benefit to your teeth, and that’s IF water fluoridation actually did what its claimed to do.

Today, even promoters of fluoridation concede that the major benefits are only from topical applications; fluoride works from the outside of the tooth, not from inside of your body, so why swallow it?

Statistics tell us that water fluoridation is ineffective for preventing caries. There is practically no difference in tooth decay between fluoridated and non-fluoridated countries, and no difference between states that have a high- or low percentage of their water fluoridated.

Meanwhile, fluoride can cause significant harm, from dental fluorosis to thyroid damage to reduced IQ… and much more.

4: GMOs Crops are Safe, Well Tested and Economically Beneficial

GMOs may be the greatest health disaster in the American diet. Within 9 years of their introduction in 1996, multiple chronic illnesses jumped from 7 percent to 13 percent of the population, food allergies doubled in less time, and many other ailments have exponentially increased with the introduction of GM foods.

Millions may already be suffering health problems caused by genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in their diet. The American Academy of Environmental Medicine has already urged doctors to prescribe non-GMO diets for all patients, citing studies that show how GMOs cause disorders such as vital organ damage, gastrointestinal and immune system problems, accelerated aging, infertility, and dysfunctional regulation of insulin and cholesterol.

But not only are GM foods a health disaster, they also pose a significant environmental threat, and industry promises of financial benefits have turned out to be false as well.

5: Sun Causes Skin Cancer

There are many misconceptions about melanoma – the most dangerous type of skin cancer that accounts for more than 75 percent of skin cancer deaths. But despite all the bad press linking sun exposure to skin cancer, there’s almost no evidence at all to support that stance. There is, however, plenty of evidence to the contrary.

Over the years, several studies have already confirmed that appropriate sun exposure actually helps prevent skin cancer. In fact, melanoma occurrence has been found to decrease with greater sun exposure, and can be increased by sunscreens.

In my interview with vitamin D expert Dr. Robert Heaney, he explains how the conventional recommendations are in fact causing the very health problem they claim to prevent.

How does sunlight prevent, rather than cause, skin cancer?

In short, it’s the vitamin D formed in your skin from exposure to sunlight that provides this built in cancer protection.

The vitamin D goes directly to genes in your skin that help prevent the types of abnormalities that ultraviolet light causes. Unfortunately, if you follow the conventional recommendation to avoid sun exposure or always use sunscreen, your skin will not make any vitamin D, leaving you without this built-in cancer protection.

Statistics confirm the truth of these findings, as melanoma rates have increased right along with sun avoidance and increased use of sunscreens. If avoiding the sun actually was the answer, then melanoma rates should have decreased exponentially over the past couple of decades…

Instead, sun avoidance and the excessive use of sun screen are actually the two primary reasons for the rise in melanoma.

6: Saturated Fat Causes Heart Disease

As recently as 2002, the “expert” Food & Nutrition Board issued the following misguided statement, which epitomizes this myth:

Saturated fats and dietary cholesterol have no known beneficial role in preventing chronic disease and are not required at any level in the diet.”

This dangerous recommendation, which arose from an unproven hypothesis from the mid-1950s, has been harming your health and that of your loved ones for about 40 years now.

The truth is, saturated fats from animal and vegetable sources provide the building blocks for cell membranes and a variety of hormones and hormone-like substances, without which your body cannot function optimally.

They also act as carriers for important fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K. Dietary fats are also needed for the conversion of carotene to vitamin A, for mineral absorption, and for a host of other biological processes.

In fact, saturated is the preferred fuel for your heart!

7: Artificial Sweeteners are Safe, Well Tested and Help Promote Weight Loss

Most people use artificial sweeteners to lose weight. The amazing irony is that nearly all the studies that have carefully analyzed their effectiveness show that those who use artificial sweeteners actually gain more weight than those who consume caloric sweeteners.

In 2005, data gathered from the 25-year long San Antonio Heart Study showed that drinking diet soft drinks increased the likelihood of serious weight gain – far more so than regular soda. On average, each diet soft drink the participants consumed per day increased their risk of becoming overweight by 65 percent within the next seven to eight years, and made them 41 percent more likely to become obese.

The reasons for this ironic reality are still being investigated, but there are several potential causes, including:

  • Sweet taste alone appears to increase hunger, regardless of caloric content.
  • Artificial sweeteners appear to simply perpetuate a craving for sweets, and overall sugar consumption is therefore not reduced—leading to further problems controlling your weight.
  • Artificial sweeteners may disrupt your body’s natural ability to “count calories,” as evidenced in studies such as this 2004 study at Purdue University, which found that rats fed artificially sweetened liquids ate more high-calorie food than rats fed high-caloric sweetened liquids.

In the end, the research tells us that artificial sweeteners are NOT a dieter’s best friend, because contrary to what the marketing campaigns claim, low- or no-calorie artificial sweeteners are more likely to help you pack on the pounds than shed them.

8: Soy is a Health Food

The meteoric rise of soy as a “health food” is a perfect example of how a brilliant marketing strategy can fool millions. But make no mistake about it, unfermented soy products are NOT healthful additions to your diet.

If you find this recommendation startling then I would encourage you to review my Why Soy Can Damage Your Health, which contains links to dozens of articles on the topic, and a video I recently did.

On the contrary, thousands of studies have linked unfermented soy to malnutrition, digestive distress, immune-system breakdown, thyroid dysfunction, cognitive decline, reproductive disorders and infertility—even cancer and heart disease.

Not only that, but more than 90 percent of American soy crops are genetically modified, which carries its own set of health risks.

Here is a sampling of the detrimental health effects that have been linked to soy consumption:

  • Breast cancer
  • Brain damage
  • Infant abnormalities
  • Thyroid disorders
  • Kidney stones
  • Immune system impairment
  • Severe, potentially fatal food allergies
  • Impaired fertility
  • Danger during pregnancy and nursing

I am not opposed to all soy, however. Organic and, most importantly, properly fermented soy does have great health benefits. Examples of such healthful fermented soy products include tempeh, miso and natto.

9: Whole Grains are Good for Everyone

The use of whole-grains is an easy subject to get confused on especially for those who have a passion for nutrition, as for the longest time we were told the fiber in whole grains is highly beneficial.

Unfortunately ALL grains, including whole-grain and organic varieties, can elevate your insulin levels, which can increase your risk of disease.

It has been my experience that more than 85 percent of Americans have trouble controlling their insulin levels — especially those who have the following conditions:

  • Diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • Protein metabolic types
  • Overweight

In addition, sub-clinical gluten intolerance is far more common than you might think, which can also wreak havoc with your health.

As a general rule, I strongly recommend eliminating grains as well as sugars from your diet, especially if you have any of the above conditions that are related to insulin resistance. The higher your insulin levels and the more prominent your signs of insulin overload are, the more ambitious your grain elimination needs to be.

If you are one of the fortunate ones without insulin resistance and of normal body weight, then grains are fine, especially whole grains. It is wise to continue to monitor your grain consumption and your health as life is dynamic and constantly changing. What might be fine when you are 25 or 30 could become a major problem at 40 when your growth hormone and level of exercise is different.

10: All Plant Based Supplements are as Good as Animal Supplements

The primary example here is that of omega-3’s. It’s very important to realize that not all omega-3 fats are the same, and that the type and source of your omega-3 will make a big difference in the health benefits it provides.

There are three types of omega-3 fats:

1. DHA (Docosahexaenoic Acid)
2. EPA (Eicosapentaenoic Acid)
3. ALA (Alpha-Linolenic Acid)

Many people do not realize that most of the well-known health benefits associated with omega-3 fats – such as mental health, stronger bones and heart health — are linked to the animal-based omega-3 fats (EPA and DHA), not the plant-based omega-3 fat (ALA).

ALA, which is the type of omega-3 found in flaxseed and nuts, is converted into EPA and DHA in your body, but only at a very low ratio.

So even if you eat large amounts of ALA, your body can only convert a relatively small amount into EPA and DHA, and only when sufficient enzymes are present.

This does not mean plant-based omega-3 fats are intrinsically harmful or that they should be avoided, only that you ideally want to include an animal-based form as well. Personally, I regularly include omega-3 (ALA) plant-based foods, like flax and hemp, in my diet, but these are always combined with animal-based omega-3 fats.

11: Milk Does Your Body Good

Can milk do your body good?

Yes, if it’s RAW.

Unfortunately, this myth insists that conventional pasteurized milk has health benefits, which is far from true. Conventional health agencies also refuse to address the real dangers of the growth hormones and antibiotics found in conventional milk.

Please understand that I do not recommend drinking pasteurized milk of any kind, including organic, because once milk has been pasteurized its physical structure is changed in a way that can actually cause allergies and immune problems.

Important enzymes like lactase are destroyed, which causes many people to not be able to digest milk. Additionally, vitamins (such as A, C, B6 and B12) are diminished and fragile milk proteins are radically transformed from health nurturing to unnatural amino acid configurations that can actually worsen your health.

The eradication of beneficial bacteria through the pasteurization process also ends up promoting pathogens rather than protecting you from them.

The healthy alternative to pasteurized milk is raw milk, which is an outstanding source of nutrients including beneficial bacteria such as lactobacillus acidophilus, vitamins and enzymes, and it is, in my estimation, one of the finest sources of calcium available.

12: Low-Fat Diets are Healthy

The low-fat myth may have done more harm to the health of millions than any other dietary recommendation. Again, just as the recommendations to avoid sunshine has increased melanoma rates, the low-fat craze led to increased consumption of trans-fats, which we now know increases your risk of obesity, diabetes and heart disease.

To end the confusion, it’s very important to realize that eating fat will not make you fat!

The primary cause of excess weight and all the chronic diseases associated with it, is actually the consumption of too much sugar — especially fructose, but also all sorts of grains, which rapidly convert to sugar in your body.

If only the low-fat craze had been a low-sugar craze… then we wouldn’t have nearly as much chronic disease as we have today.

Make Your Own Natural Fluoride-Free Toothpaste

If you’re sick of fluoride based toothpaste, who can blame you? Fluoride is widely touted to protect our teeth, but it’s actually a poisonous chemical that causes cancer, damages our nervous system, and even creates  weak teeth and bones. Fluoride is common in rat poison and the Nazis used to put it in the prisoners’ water - because it’s known to placate people and make them easier to control. Knowing this - if you haven’t already done so - it’s probably time to dump your fluoride toothpaste. There are certainly many brands of fluoride-free toothpaste available at your local health food store or almost as easy, and likely better for you, you can just make your own.

If you’re going to make your own toothpaste, coconut oil is the perfect place to start. Coconut oil is a key ingredient in homemade toothpastes because it’s a powerful, natural antibacterial and antifungal - so it works to kill harmful bacteria in your mouth while you brush. Coconut oil is excellent for your gums and brushing with it regularly can eliminate bleeding, sore gums. The oil kills the bacteria that are responsible for gingivitis - and if you have gingivitis, you might want to massage some coconut oil into your gums regularly, in addition to using it in your toothpaste. Brushing your tongue with the oil helps with thrush, a fungal problem localized in the mouth, and to boot, coconut oil has been found to stop and even reverse some tooth decay.

Another key ingredient in homemade toothpastes is baking soda. Baking soda is used for two reasons. First, it’s a mild abrasive that provides a gentle cleansing. Second, it’s alkaline. Being alkaline, baking soda can neutralize acids in your mouth that are often at the root of tooth decay. Baking soda also absorbs odors and helps produce sweet breath.

To make your own toothpaste, just use a fifty/fifty ratio of coconut oil to baking soda. Start with a small batch and use a few tablespoons of each. If you like, add a few drops of an essential oil, like peppermint or spearmint, for flavor and a bit of stevia for sugar-free sweetness. After mixing your toothpaste, keep it in a glass container with a lid. Then, just spoon some out for use or just dip your dry toothbrush into it. The mixture doesn’t need to be refrigerated and because coconut oil is antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal, it’ll help keep your toothbrush clean and sanitary too.

Coconut oil is liquid above 76 degrees and solid below, so the mixture can change consistency with the weather. You’ll also want to rinse with warm water to prevent the oil from hardening in your sink or drain.

Why the fluoridation of public water supplies is illegal

Municipalities all across America are currently dripping fluoride chemicals into their public water supply, dosing over a hundred million Americans with a chemical that they claim “prevents cavities.”

What’s interesting here is that this biological effect of “preventing cavities” is a medical claim, according to the FDA. And as such, making this claim instantly and automatically transforms fluoride into a “drug” under currently FDA regulations.

This means that cities and towns all across America are now practicing medicine without a license by dripping liquid medication into the public water supply without the consent of those who are swallowing the medication.

If you or I did this, we would be arrested and tried as either terrorists (because contaminating the water supply is an act of terrorism) or felons practicing medicine without a license. So what allows cities and towns to get away with these very same crimes?

Cities openly violate state and federal law

Keep in mind that a medication can only be legally prescribed to someone after they have been diagnosed with a medical need. In other words, a doctor can’t legally prescribe you some pharmaceutical unless he examines you and determines you actually need it. But fluoride is medicating everyone whether they need it or not, without any medical diagnosis whatsoever.

And that means those children or adults who already have high exposure to fluoride (from swallowing toothpaste or drinking fluoridated bottled water, for example) may now be exposed to too much fluoride from the added amounts in the tap water. Excess fluoride can cause serious health problems such as bone fractures and dark spots appearing on your teeth (dental fluorosis).

This does not appear to concern the proponents of fluoride — people who believe they alone have the right to practice mass medicine without a license by dripping an unapproved drug chemical into the public water supply without the knowledge or consent of those who are being medicated by that chemical.

Every city and town in America currently engaged in fluoridation of the water supply is committing felony crimes. Town leaders who approve of water fluoridation are criminals operating in clear violation of FDA regulations, state medical laws and federal laws.

How to fight back

If you happen to see one of these town leaders at a town meeting, make a citizens’ arrest and put them in handcuffs, then turn them over to the local sheriff.

You may also wish to write a strong letter to your state medical board and complain that your city or town officials are “practicing medicine without a license” by dosing your city residents with an unapproved drug.

If they insist fluoride is not a drug, tell them to read the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act). (http://www.fda.gov/regulatoryinform...)

There, you will find that the Act states:

The term “drug” means… articles (other than food) intended to affect the structure or any function of the body of man or other animals.

Now, I don’t personally agree with this definition of a “drug” but this is what the FDA claims it to be, and it clearly states that any item intended to “affect the structure” of the body is a drug.

Fluoride is intended to affect the structure of the teeth. That’s the whole claimed purpose of dumping it into the water supply. Therefore, fluoride is a drug.

Furthermore, since it is a drug, it is ILLEGAL to dump it into the water supply, even if it were approved by the FDA to treat cavities (which it isn’t).

Thus, every employee of every city or town that is currently dumping this chemical drug into the water supply is guilty of a felony crime and should be immediately arrested and prosecuted for contamination of the public water supplies as well as practicing medicine without a license.

Call your local police department and report these crimes. It’s time to arrest these fluoro-terrorists who are illegally contaminating our public water supply with illegal drugs. Stop the fluoride madness.

Toothpaste Ingredients Your Dentist Will Not Warn You About

One of the fastest ways to absorb anything into the body is through the mouth. This is why certain drugs such as heart medication nitroglycerin and some pain relief drugs are administered under the tongue. Because of this, you should be aware that potentially toxic ingredients in your toothpaste and mouthwash could also be absorbed into your body.

Unfortunately, your dentist may think he or she knows what to recommend for you, but chances are that is not the case.

The following is a list of some potentially toxic ingredients in dental and other personal care products and of the reasons for concern that your dentist probably does not realize:

1.Fluoride - FDA warning on toothpaste/mouthwash containing fluoride reads: “WARNING, keep out of reach of children under the age of 6. If more than used for normal brushing is swallowed, contact your physician or local Poison Control Center immediately.”

Children`s toothpaste often has flavors that taste like candy or bubblegum which may tempt children to swallow it. This can be a problem since the warning states that even small amounts of fluoride swallowed can cause serious health risks.

Toxic dosage of toothpaste with fluoride can cause death. For example, death could result if a 2 year old swallows 42 percent of a tube of fluoride toothpaste, a 4 year old swallows 56 percent of a tube of fluoride toothpaste or a 6 year old swallows 70 percent of the contents of a fluoride toothpaste tube.

2.Triclosan - This antibiotic/antimicrobial agent is used in many products including dishwashing soap, hand soap, deodorants, toothpaste and mouthwash. In August 2009 the Canadian Medical Association requested Canada Health to ban triclosan use in personal care products due to development of bacterial resistance. In 2006 and 2009, studies demonstrated triclosan exposure significantly impacts thyroid hormone concentrations. Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports frequent use of antibiotics could lead to growth of bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics. We all know of the rise in `superbugs` that are resistant to most antibiotics and have resulted in deaths.

3.Sodium Lauryl Sulfate - Using toothpaste without sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) may reduce the frequency of canker sores (aphthous ulcers). Researchers speculate that SLS dries out the protective mucous lining in the mouth…making it vulnerable to irritants that lead to canker sores. SLS is a detergent that is in almost all toothpastes, dishwashing soaps and body washes.

4.Abrasives - Tooth sensitivity is caused by many factors. A term used for certain types of tooth sensitivity is known as `abfractions` and may be caused by abrasive toothpaste. Some toothpaste including teeth whitening pastes and tartar control brands may contain stronger abrasives. A test available, but not used by most brands is called the RDA rating. This determines the abrasiveness of toothpaste to dentin, the middle layer of teeth. Unless the RDA (Relative Dentin Abrasivity) of a brand is known, the consumer or dentist may not know if tooth abrasion was caused on some level by the toothpaste used.

5.Artificial sweeteners - The FDA has vacillated over the years about the safety of artificial sweeteners such as saccharin. Canada Health has still not approved saccharin as safe.

6.Botanical ingredients - Drugs come from plants, and many herbs including the popular tea tree oil have side effects and drug interactions. Is Your Toothpaste Really “Natural”?

As a natural lifestyle continues to appeal to greater numbers of people, many are extending their desire for natural products to toothpaste. There are now a wide variety available, with or without fluoride, and in many flavors and forms.

However the definition of “natural” is not regulated, particularly if the toothpaste is non-fluoride. Fluoride toothpastes are considered a drug by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and are therefore regulated. Non-fluoride toothpastes, however, are considered cosmetics and it’s “up to the manufacturers to be careful with their labeling,” according to the FDA.

Meanwhile, natural means that a product is free from artificial colors, flavors and preservatives. It may still contain highly processed ingredients, such as fluorides, abrasives and humectants.

One brand of natural toothpaste, Tom’s of Maine, was purchased by Colgate-Palmolive last year and became the first natural toothpaste to receive the Seal of Acceptance from the American Dental Association (ADA).

The seal does not necessarily mean that the ADA endorses a product, only that it is effective and does what it says it will do, the ADA pointed out.

In short, it remains a “buyer beware” environment for natural products, including toothpastes. But there are now more toothpaste options available than ever, which allows each person to make their own choice.

CDC Covering Up Serious Hazards of Water Fluoridation

On August 9, Daniel Stockin, a public health professional of The Lillie Center, Inc., presented the CDC’s joint ethics panel with a detailed, formal complaint alleging unethical activities by the CDC.

According to the complaint, Oral Health Division manager William Maas and CDC Director Julie Gerberding have committed “serious and egregious” unethical actions, by not disseminating new findings about the real hazards of fluoridated water.

Stockin stated, “People with kidney disease or on dialysis should see this complaint and the report by the National Research Council on fluoride. And if you happen to be a member of the population with diabetes or HIV, you will be amazed how the NRC report contains important information you should know about – but that CDC has elected not to openly share with the public because it runs at odds with putting fluoride in drinking water.”

In a separate development, news surfaced that on the same day 600 doctors, dentists, and other professionals have signed a petition calling for a halt to water fluoridation, asking for congressional hearings on the issue.

In 2005, eleven unions within the EPA publicly called for a ban of water fluoridation, over concerns that it may cause bone cancer. And in 2006, the American Dental Association warned mothers about using fluoridated water to mix their powdered baby formula.

Now, finally, the U.S. Department of Agriculture is developing software to try to assess just how much fluoride you’re ingesting, citing new findings that cumulative fluoride intake might lead to painful skeletal fluorosis.

Yet despite long-standing, ever-mounting evidence of fluoride’s hazard to human health, the CDC still clings to its outdated recommendation to add fluoride to drinking water in order to protect your oral health. Even though it was a lie, right from the start.

The Embarrassing Truth About Fluoride

Award-winning journalist Christopher Bryson, a former producer at the BBC, wrote about his shocking discoveries in his book “The Fluoride Deception,” and I also ran an exclusive interview with him, just over three years ago. His book details far more than the dangers of fluoride — it reveals a multi-tiered effort, or as Bryson says, an abuse of power by military and industry scientists, and public health officials, to shamelessly promote fluoride to the dentistry field and the American public with little regard to the implications it would have on human health.

What Can Fluoride Do to Your Health?

Fluoride, contrary to popular belief, does not stop tooth decay at all, but rather causes teeth to rot and crumble – a condition called dental fluorosis.

According to the CDC itself, about 32 percent of American children have some level of dental fluorosis, characterized by mottling and pitting of the teeth. The real percentage is probably a lot higher than that. In 1993, the National Research Council reported 84 percent of the population had dental fluorosis in areas where fluoride in the water exceeded 3.7 parts per million (ppm).

What does that mean in plain English?

It means that if your water company adds a mere 3.7 drops of fluoride in every 13 gallons of water, you have an 84 percent chance of developing dental fluorosis.

The Environmental Working Group has petitioned the National Institutes of Health to list fluoride in tap water as a carcinogen. A 1991 study by the U.S. Public Health Service found a strong link between fluoride exposure and bone cancer in boys. They found there was a 79 percent increase in osteosarcoma in fluoridated communities and a 4 percent decrease in non-fluoridated communities.

Fluoride is closely linked to osteosarcoma for these reasons:

  • Fifty percent of ingested fluoride is deposited in your bones.
  • Fluoride is a mitogen that stimulates bone growth.
  • Fluoride is known to cause human cells to mutate.

So when fluoride is deposited into the bones, it stimulates bone growth, but not the good kind. Instead, it’s growth that damages cells at the ends of bones and causes osteosarcoma.

How Can You Protect Yourself From Fluoride?

Whereas some other chemicals added to your drinking water will evaporate, fluoride is not one of them. Even cooking, food processing, regular filtration, or digestion doesn’t remove fluoride. It just keeps going right up the food chain, accumulating in fat cells.

Therefore, the best place to start is by filtering your tap water with a reverse osmosis filter. And that includes for purposes such as:

  • Washing vegetables
  • Making ice cubes
  • Cooking, since heat does not destroy fluoride

Please don’t fool yourself by thinking you can tell whether your water is safe or not by the way it looks, tastes, or smells. If you are receiving your water from a municipal water supply in the US the odds are that your water is fluoridated, and a simple carbon filter will not remove it.

Also remember that installing a filter to purify the water in your kitchen may not be enough. You might want to also consider adding filters in your shower and your tub, since you could still be exposed to contaminated water (which can be absorbed through your skin) when you shower or bathe.
